Taming Your Brain Rats – A Call with Barbara

Using Your Voice to Move Through Fear

Fearlessness doesn’t mean being without fear – there are many paths through the things that frighten us.

As a dynamic introduction to what will prove to be a vibrant day, we want to introduce you to Fearlessness, Voice and Joy, and we couldn’t think of a better way than to come together with Barbara for story, song and voice.

This call with Barbara is, in many ways, about the bigger Call many of us are hearing – to step into our true leadership voice.

At this time in her life, Barbara is in this place of the unknown, and she’s discovered, in a deeply personal and transformative way, how voice can help us to move through fear, which is what fearlessness is all about.

A little bit about the call:

On this call, Barbara will

  • Offer insights about how your voice can be a vehicle for greater freedom, joy, and aliveness.
  • Share her story of finding her own voice as a singer, a voice coach, and more recently, as the author of Full Voice: The Art and Practice of Vocal Presence (Berrett-Koehler – October, 2011).
  • Take us on a “tour” of five specific colors in our voices and how they can be used in our coaching practices — and the rest of life, for that matter!
  • Preview the exciting event Barbara will be co-convening with Meg Wheatley on October 22 in Oakland (simulcast as well for those living outside of the San Francisco Bay Area).

A little about Barbara:

Given her own remarkable recovery from paralyzing stage fright, Barbara is walking (singing) evidence of the transformational power of the voice. In her 20 years as a voice coach, she’s been helping leaders, coaches, consultants, physicians, shower singers, and teenagers to “find their voice” – whatever that means to them. She synthesizes her experience in her book Full Voice: The Art & Practice of Vocal Presence ( Berrett-Koehler Publishers), due out in fall of 2011. Barbara studied extensively in the United States, France, and Canada with members of the Roy Hart Centre. Learn more about Barbara here.

“Barbara is a poet, songwriter and fabulous speaker. She brings a quality to thinking and the speaking that is fresh and accessible. Few others have so integrated organizational insight and profound speech. Barbara gives great care to all she does.”

About our host:

Neil Planchon, CPCC. Neil has long been an ambassador for getting the word out about coaching. He works with coaches, small business owners and others to find easy, natural and effective ways to discover better versions of themselves, grow their businesses and make positive contributions to our global village. He loves to coach individuals who want to be more (or less) productive, who long for more community and success, and who are willing to let go of what is holding them back to get there. Neil naturally creates space where energy is heightened, ideas flow freely, inspiration returns and action becomes possible. He loves listening to classical and jazz music, practicing mindfulness, walking in nature and being a wikipedian. Neil is a founding resident of a Cohousing community in Oakland where he lives with his cat Buddha. Learn more about Neil here.

He is very excited to be hosting this conversation with his colleague, Barbara McAfee, about ” The Art and Practice of vocal presence”. He is looking forward to hearing how she encourages us to discover our own voices and use them to express ourselves with more authenticity.
